Te Rā Waldorf School!
A warm welcome from our team of teachers, teacher aides, kaiako kaiāwhina, office and support staff, to our website!
Here at Te Rāwhiti Kindergarten and Te Rā School we provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children to play, explore and learn. We encourage active parent and whānau participation: together, we build a community for our tamariki.
Our shared commitment is to provide high quality Waldorf education through the pathway of our special character curriculum and pedagogy – from Early Childhood through to our Class 7 (Year 8).
Collaboration also lies at the heart of our school leadership. Tumuaki for the school and Kaiārahi for the kindergarten together contribute our passion for Waldorf education and our individual strengths in leading, teaching and learning.
We are grateful to those who have laid down the foundations for this beautiful place of learning and growing in the past. It is the work of our pioneer teachers and whānau on which we can build our children’s future. Their dedication lives on in the role of our proprietors, the Kāpiti Waldorf Trust, which holds the governance role together with the School Board.
Nō reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou katoa.
It is the work of our pioneer teachers and whānau on which we build our children’s future.
Playgroup
We provide Waldorf playgroups for 0-3 year olds and their caregivers/whānau.
Primary School
Learning with hands, heart and head is the guiding principle of Waldorf education. As a state-integrated school we implement the New Zealand curriculum and are passionate advocates for creating learning paths for our tamariki that align with the different stages of child development.
Kindergarten
The kindergarten journey, for 3 to 6 year olds, sow the “seeds” for formal education that begins in the year the child turns 7. Children are educated through play and fostering a deep connection with the land, the living plants and animals, and the people around them.
Secondary School
For many years, Te Rā School has had a strong affiliation with Raphael House in the hills above Lower Hutt. Graduates from Te Rā School are welcome to apply for enrolment for the high school years (classes 8-12) in their Upper School.
The healthy social life is found when, in the mirror of each soul, the whole community finds its reflection, and when, in the community, the virtue of each one is living.
